Kumar Subramaniam

Kumar brings more than 20 years of health care leadership experience to SafeTower. Prior to joining SafeTower, Kumar led the Innovation and Ventures team, a division of Johns Hopkins Healthcare LLC., and has served in leadership roles at various health care organizations — including Humana, Care Innovations and ShareCare Healthways — building a strong track record as an innovator in the development and commercialization of health care information technologies. Kumar earned a Doctorate degree in Business Administration from the Walden University School of Technology and Business. He also holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the University of Louisville, and a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree from Pune University, India.

Eileen Kasda, DrPH, MHS

Eileen brings well over a decade of expertise in patient safety to the SafeTower team. Eileen is a thought leader and expert in event reporting, high reliability and patient safety analytics. She led the Johns Hopkins event reporting operations and created the vision for the Hero software application. Eileen presents regularly, both nationally and internationally, on strategies to improve safety culture and to design care delivery systems to improve patient safety. Eileen holds a Doctor of Public Health degree in Healthcare Management and Leadership from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Asa Adadey

Asa Adadey, MS, is a Data Scientist and Health Informaticist. His experience ranges from genomics and systems biology to supply chain optimization and inventory management. His expertise is in employing natural language processing and machine learning techniques towards various health care applications such as classifying unstructured event reporting data and identifying risk signals in EHR data. Asa was instrumental in designing the Hero solution at Johns Hopkins Health System and supporting its rollout since 2021. At SafeTower, he is responsible for research and development of machine learning techniques and frameworks for the system-wide event reporting platform and for developing qualitative analytics to support the culture of patient safety. Asa holds a Master of Science in Computational and Systems Biology from MIT.

Almir Banjanovic

Almir specializes in cloud architecture, cloud-native application design, DevOps and automation, and enterprise technical strategy. For over a decade and a half, he has led teams and projects across multiple organizations, including Homecare Homebase and Humana, driving innovation and operational excellence in the health care sector. At SafeTower, he oversees cloud architecture and design, providing a robust platform for application engineering and machine learning to enable cutting-edge solutions. Almir holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Louisville and a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Studies from Bellarmine University.

Bruce Feng

Bruce Feng is a software engineer with experience building multiple legacy and modern backend frameworks from scratch to production in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining SafeTower, Bruce worked primarily as a full stack developer in FinTech industries, handling implementation and design of solutions. His exposure and appetite to learn different types of technologies give him a unique vantage point for understanding and solutioning.

Kara Hale

Bringing over 20 years of Software Engineering expertise to SafeTower, Kara has managed a wide array of projects spanning patient safety event reporting, major website redesigns, and WAN and application optimization. Notably, she played a pivotal role in implementing the Hero system across Johns Hopkins. Kara has a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from The University of Edinburgh.

Rebecca Hernandez

As a Front End Software Engineer with a QA background, Rebecca brings a unique blend of technical expertise and attention to detail to her work. With a keen eye for design, she strives to create visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces while also ensuring a seamless user experience. Rebecca thrives on learning new technologies, tackling challenges head-on and leverages her problem-solving skills to find solutions. She’s committed to continuous growth and improvement in her work, and prioritizes the user’s experience to facilitate patient safety reporting.

Amanda Howard

Project Manager

Amanda’s career has focused on developing and promoting health interventions at large health systems. As SafeTower’s operational project manager, she excels in supporting our internal and external operations, including interfacing with SafeTower’s customers. Amanda’s training in public health and experience conducting market intelligence serves as a valuable aid to SafeTower’s patient safety consulting services.

Andrew Pepper

Jr. Data Engineer, Jr. Software Engineer

Andrew is a Software Engineer with a background in physics research and industry experience. Having learned to program for research projects in astrophysics, he fostered a distinct skill for data analysis and visualization. Before joining SafeTower, he worked as a full stack developer, where he built competitive software solutions using modern frameworks and tools. His multidisciplinary background provides an uncommon perspective on the complex problems in patient safety. He is responsible for improving SafeTower’s existing technology and for developing and integrating new features into the application. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science in applied physics and mathematics from the University of California, Davis.

Christine Robson

Christine has seven years of experience managing the patient safety event reporting efforts across the Johns Hopkins Medicine enterprise. She was responsible for the hugely successful rollout of the Hero system across all Johns Hopkins Medicine facilities since April 2021. Christine is uniquely attuned to the challenges frontline staff and patient safety teams face based on her nine years of experience as a bedside nurse. She has experience entering adverse event reports as a nurse, investigating events, and responding to them at a local hospital and health system level, and identifying patterns in large patient safety event datasets. Christine holds a Master of Science degree in Nursing as an Adult-Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

Keith Rull

With over two decades of experience in software development and global team leadership, Keith has established himself as a seasoned engineering leader with passion and commitment to excellence. Before joining SafeTower, Keith served as a Fractional CTO/Advisor for startups, providing strategic guidance to numerous early-stage startups in building teams, leading engineering, product development, and roadmap planning.

Notable among these ventures are Grouped, a platform facilitating influencer-to-fanbase engagement, Eyerate, an online reputation management and customer engagement platform, HiveWealth, a financial wellness application, and Tripment, an online discounted healthcare marketplace.

Prior to his advisory work, Keith held leadership positions in healthcare organizations such as American Health Care and Care Innovations, where he played a pivotal role in the development and launch of successful SaaS products tailored for health systems.

Keith holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

Nisha Sinha

Nisha Sinha, MBA, has years of experience configuring and maintaining patient safety event reporting applications and extracting and analyzing patient safety data. She has served as the main point of contact for users of the event reporting system across Johns Hopkins. Her experience in user-centered design and client support has been instrumental in informing SafeTower’s solution for event reporting in promoting a culture of safety and transparency.

Nisha holds a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University Maryland. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Global Community Health with an emphasis in Biology from George Mason University.

Nick Culbertson

Nick Culbertson is the CEO of Protenus, an AI company that helps health systems eliminate risk through compliance automation. Under Nick’s leadership, Protenus has been recognized by Gartner as a Cool Vendor in Healthcare Artificial Intelligence, by CB Insights as one of the Most Innovative Digital Health Startups, by Forbes as one of America’s Top Startup Employers, and by Modern Healthcare as one of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare. Prior to founding Protenus, Nick attended the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and served in the US Military as a Special Operations “Green Beret” and Advanced Tactical Practitioner.

Peter Najjar, MD

Dr. Najjar is the Medical Director of Clinical Operations for Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality and Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Ravitch Division of Colorectal Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, specializing in complex robotic colorectal surgery. He completed his surgical training at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, where he also completed the Harvard Medical School Fellowship in Patient Safety and Quality and served as a senior quality consultant. He received his B.S. summa cum laude from the University of California, Davis, M.D. from the University of Chicago, and M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

He is experienced in health system clinical operations, quality and safety measurement and governance, innovation/commercialization, and the implementation of care improvement programs. He serves on the executive board of Priority Partners, the largest Medicaid managed care organization in Maryland, as well as the quality and safety boards of Howard County General Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He served as a value-based surgery consultant to the previous Executive Director of the American College of Surgeons.  He teaches and lectures internationally, and his writing appears in JAMA Surgery, Annals of Surgery, the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, and Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, among others.

Kevin Sowers, MS

Kevin Sowers is president of the Johns Hopkins Health System and executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine, overseeing the health system’s six hospitals in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Florida. He sets strategies that align with the organization’s tripartite mission: to deliver outstanding care, train the next generation of leaders, and advance research and discovery. He also serves as chair of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians, which has more than 40 primary and specialty care outpatient sites.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Capital University School of Nursing and his Master of Science degree from Duke University School of Nursing. In 2020, he was recognized by the Columbia School of Business with the prestigious Deming Cup Award, which honors business leaders for outstanding merit in operations and for fostering a culture of continuous improvement within their organizations.

Craig Williams, PhD

Craig Williams is Vice President of Health Care Innovation and Management Solutions for Johns Hopkins HealthCare LLC. He leads a business that brings together Johns Hopkins HealthCare Solutions and Ventures to form a single platform to partner with Johns Hopkins faculty to advance applied solutions to meet health care challenges in the marketplace. Craig also supports Johns Hopkins University’s commitment to the economic transformation of Baltimore and Maryland in public-private efforts to build, attract, and retain innovative companies in the local ecosystem. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins in 2016, he served two Governors of Maryland and a U.S. Representative. He also served as Director of Policy for the U.S. for Amgen, Inc. Craig earned his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in Political Science, with a concentration in public policy, which he has focused in health care for the past two decades.
